Youth and Family Programs

Getting time together as a family isn’t as easy as it used to be. Even when everyone’s in the same place, it’s common to feel distracted, rushed, or pulled in different directions.

At Vermillion Ranch, families and young people spend time together doing simple, everyday things in a different setting. You’re outside. You share meals. You walk the land, help with small tasks, and spend evenings together without much competing for attention.

Kids tend to settle in once they have room to move and explore. Teenagers often talk more when conversations happen naturally, while doing something side by side. Parents notice they’re not watching the clock as much and feel more present than they do at home.

Families and youth remember the time they spent together, shared moments, small conversations, and experiences that came from being together in one place without rushing off to the next thing.

What You Will Do Here

During a Youth & Family Program, days are spent together in ways that don’t usually happen at home. Families eat meals together, spend time outdoors, walk the property, help with small tasks, and share evenings together. Time naturally shifts between being active and relaxing in each others company without everything being scheduled or timed.

Some parts of the day are guided, and others are open. There are flexible and age appropriate activities to do together, but there’s also time for kids to play, explore, or just hang out. Younger kids usually gravitate toward movement and hands on things. Teenagers tend to engage more when they’re doing something alongside others instead of being asked to sit and talk. Parents are involved throughout the day, not separated out or watching from the sidelines.

A lot of conversation happens without planning for it. Walking, working, eating, or sitting around in the evening often leads to the kinds of talks that don’t come up during a busy week at home. Families start to settle into a rhythm, and time together feels less rushed and more natural.
